Strong physical attacks that allow you to cut through enemies. Evade your foes and launch sneak attacks with your agileness and stealth.

Assassin is a physical type class that relies on dealing quick damage with moderate cost. As a physical class, Assassins make good use of the melee ability which has no cost. They also have a self-buff that increases strength and a cost/damage heavy ability. With the Stealth ability, assassins can better avoid enemies and instantly disengage fights. It also has a low cooldown. If you do not like the tanky class, Titan, which sacrifices damage (also higher costs) for defense, and do not wish to play the cast heavy magical type classes, Assasin is the class for you.
How it plays
Stat Breakdown
Early on, Melee and Stab will be the primary buttons you'll use. Sever will bleed the target and inflict damage over time, which should be reapplied after it wears off. Bladestorm, Distracting throw, and Hamstring, all are damaging abilities you'll eventually use just as often.

Strength- Increases Physical damage.
Stamina- Increases Health and Rage.
Agility- Increases Physical Crit and Dodge.
Spirit- Increases Dodge (absorb) and Health and Rage regen outside combat. Rage regen is half as effective in combat
Intellect- Increases Rage cost reduction
Stat Build
*Bladestorm is a costly ability, but will be your most reliable as well. It is your hardest hitting ability AND damages multiples targets as well.
Your gear scales best with Strength, Stamina, and Agility
*Although Distracting Throw is a cost inefficient skill (deals damage similar to melee but costs rage), it can allow you to bring a single enemy to you if there are too many enemies around it.
*Hamstring has a long cooldown and similarly low amounts of damage, but has a chance to stun.

The weapon and offhand I have shown here are the best (aside from the premium ones of course)
Both Spirit and Intellect scale poorly and don't contribute as much.
Agility seems to be useful but the diminishing returns are great. At the "Base" level you automatically get around 3.6% Crit/Dodge and doesn't take much to increase it to an even 4, but the value required to "advance" to the next tier (4%, 6%, etc.) increases exponentially.
Training (activities > training)
To summarize, these 3 abilities can drain your rage quickly and should be used strategically early on to conserve and use rage efficiently.
*(6/7):3:1 split between Str:Stm:Agl is a good ratio
**Train Strength 6 or 7 times, for every 3 times you train Stamina
**Train Stamina 3 times, for every time you train Agility
*Occasionally train Intellect and Spirit based on your level.
**For example, at level 10 train Intellect and Spirit 10 times.
**You can also train more with training energy
*Reserve points for main stats
*Eventually Strength will outweigh Stamina by a lot more
**Once you reach the endgame you can switch to a higher ratio like 10:1 between Str:Stm
**Agility can be trained to certain thresholds as you wish

Abilities
Assassins' Vigor is effectively a permanent self-buff to damage and should always be up. Stealth is Assassin's "signature" skill that allows you to hide from enemies and later on allow you to deal more damage.
Melee- Deals minor damage

Since assassins scale with strength, this ability will be your bread and butter along with stab. This ability costs no rage.
Unlocked at Start and Rank increases every 15 levels

Stab- Deals moderate damage
What to train
Strength and Stamina are the two stats you should prioritize, with more emphasis on Strength (70/30 ratio) early on.

*Slowly shift to a 50/50 ratio as while you'll eventually outscale the cost of abilities with a high enough Stamina, you still need a ton of health late game.
This ability is your bread and butter along with melee. It costs a small portion of your rage and can be strengthened further with Improved Stab, giving it 30% more crit chance.
Unlocked at Start and Rank increases every 20 levels

Sever- Deals moderate damage over time
Agility and Intellect has its uses with Agility scaling better. But despite being an Assassin, its a trap to invest in agility too much (intellect too obviously).
*The diminishing return are too great to justify prioritizing this more than Strength and Stamina.

This ability costs as much as Stab and should be used at the beginning of combat. This ability will deal damage 2 to 3 times (once every 5 seconds) and is the most cost-efficient ability. Only use it if you can’t kill an enemy within 10-15 seconds, or 25-30 seconds with Improved Sever
Unlocked at Level 10 and Rank increases every 20 levels

Bladestorm- Deals massive damage
Spirit effectively only increases your absorb (magic dodge) and therefore should barely be touched. The hp/rage regeneration falls off too early to be that useful.

A very costly ability that deals massive damage. If you value your rage, do not use it. Even for an ability with a 10-second cooldown, Bladestorm costs 50% to over double the rage as stab does. The disadvantages of this ability outweigh the advantages. You can still use it in your rotation if you use the lowest rank (at level 60)
Unlocked at Level 20 and Rank increases every 20 levels

Distracting Throw- Deals minor damage from a distance
Therefore your training energy should never touch stats other than Strength and Stamina.
*Your points still focused on these two stats unless you have some you can afford to spare on Agility and Intellect.

This ability costs the least rage. You can use the lowest rank to pull one enemy at a time or use it with melee and stab. It can be rage inefficient as it barely deals more damage than melee, but way more efficient than Bladestom.
Unlocked at level 4 and Rank increases every 20 levels

Assassin's Vigour- Temporarily increases strength
Talents
One tree is more defensive with slight utility while the other tree is full on offense, the latter of course has more priority.

*You can effectively double the duration of bleeds while increasing your critical chance on bleeding targets as well.
*Stab's crit chance itself can be raised fairly high while Bladestorm's duration can be cut in half.
A simple ability that temporarily increases your damage output by an equivalent of a Fair Strength Potion (15%). Always use.
*And against physical attacks, you can increase your chance to dodge, decrease your damage taken, and decrease the chance you get critically hit by them.
*Eventually you can also improve the Stealth ability by reducing your detection range and increasing your critical chance while sheathed.
Unlocked at level 30

Stealth- Hide from enemies

The ability that distinguishes itself from the other classes (at least at the beginning). It can hide you from enemies (as long as you don’t get too close), and can disengage you from combat if it succeeds (deactivates when you take dot damage). The aggro in this game only happens when you move so you can recover your health and rage before attacking again (I don’t know if this is a bug or not but it’s probably how the coding works).
Unlocked at Start

Incapacitate- Stun an enemy
Talents (in-depth)
This ability is unlocked through the talent tree and stuns your enemies for 2 ticks, which is about 10 seconds. I do not recommend unlocking this ability and I will explain in the talent tree section.

Rotation
#Use Assassin's Vigour if it expires
#Begin the attack with Distracting Throw if the enemy is far away
#Attack with Sever.
#Keep using it to refresh as long as you can’t defeat the enemy within 10-15 seconds.
#Use Bladestorm if you are willing to waste rage, defeating them faster, and completing a quest or gaining XP.
#*It is not worth using in the middle of a fight as It’s a waste of rage using an already rage inefficient ability
#Spam Melee, Stab, and Bladestorm (if using lowest rank)
#Use Incapacitate (not recommended) to stun powerful enemies or to conserve health and rage if you can kill them while stunned.
#Use Stealth to recover health and mana or to wait for a food/potion cooldown. You must not move after casting this or enemies will attack you
Tl;dr Spam Melee and Stab for damage (maybe Distracting Throw also)

Talent Tree Overview
Tree 2 should be prioritized first to maximize damage. the talents on Tree 1 aren't terrible per say, but they wont benefit you as much early on.

I consider the left tree to be the defensive/utility while the right tree is the offensive. You can reset anytime. but just note the cost to reset (after the first free reset) increases every time you reset.
You shouldn't worry about the Talent Tree early on as you only start with one point, gaining more every ten levels. There side quests near the second half of the game that rewards you with a total of 5 talent points. I will list all the talents you can learn and the order you should learn it.

Tier 1
Tier 1
In the first tier you have Improved Strength and Improved Agility which increases your stat. You need all 3 points in this in order to learn a second-tier talentl called Discipline and Masters training respectively. At max level, you can gain up to 10 percent more of a stat through training. Strength (Masters training) is definitely preferred over Agility (Discipline).

Next, you have Improved Sever, which actually was a talent I mistook as useless. It said that increases the duration of Sever by 1%, which in reality is actually 1 tick. A tick equals 5 seconds, so at the max rank, you deal at least double the bleed damage. Take this first.

I've mentioned a defensive/utility and offensive split, but Channel Energy and Thick armor are in separate talent trees. Flexibility decreases physical damage taken by up to 6% while Improved armor raises your armor gained by items by 10%. They are both defensive talents that should be in the same tree. Nonetheless, these talents should be one of the last talents to level. Also to note, eventually Channel Energy will surpass Thick armor since you will cap on gear level.

Improved stealth does nothing since the ability got revamped.

You have Flexibility which increases dodge chance by up to 10%. Being able to dodge more is infinitely better than taking less damage. Both only apply to physical attacks as well so dodge is dominant. Crit and Dodge also go hand in hand.

Tier 2
Tree 2
*Improved Stab is the top priority as its your most reliable ability at the start. There is no reason not to increase your critical chance by up to 30%
To reiterate, You need all 3 points in either Improved Strength or Improved Agility in order to learn a second-tier talent called Discipline and Masters training respectively. At max level, you can gain up to 10 percent more of a stat through training. Strength (Masters training) is definitely preferred over Agility (Discipline).

Also to reiterate, Channel Energy and Thick armor are in separate talent trees even though they are similar (defense/utility). Flexibility decreases physical damage taken by up to 6% while Improved armor raises your armor gained by items by 10%. They are both defensive talents that should be in the same tree. Nonetheless, these talents should be one of the last talents to level. Again, Channel Energy will surpass Thick armor since you will cap on gear level.

Improved Stab is a second-tier talent that you should prioritize over the third-tier talents I will mention later. It raises the crit chance of your stab ability by up to 30%. This ensures you crit a third of the time (30% plus "default" 3% from agility), which is big considering how much agility it requires to increase crit anyways.

Similar to Improved Strength/Improved Agility, you have Focus and Pain. Focus lowers the rage cost of your abilities by up to 10% while pain increases your crit chance by up to 5%. I’d prioritize Pain over Focus as both it and Penetration increase your damage output. You must max either talent (Focus or Pain) to be able to unlock the final talent.

Tier 3
*Improved Sever is also important, but no equally so even though its required to learn Bloodletting (and increase crit chance on bleeding targets).

**You need to invest 3 points to even unlock the ability to rank up the next talent. 30% critical chance on stab has way more tangible value than a longer bleed at face value
Incapacitate is the only ability you have to unlock through the talent tree. It stuns your enemy for two ticks, which is a lot despite two ticks sounding like a little (10 seconds). It has a long cooldown of 60 seconds which might deter you from using it. But you should also be deterred from using it because the other talent, Penetration, is the superior one.

Penetration is a strong talent that allows you to reduce the effect of enemy armor by 20%. You’ll be able to deal more damage and is definitely better than a stun. This talent isn’t the most important though, as I consider Improved Stab to be Assassin's greatest talent.

Talent Order
*Improved Strength can be easily skipped as it will take much later before you actually see any benefit from the increased total strength.
This is, therefore, the order in which you should level your talents

Improved Sever
Tree 1
Improved Strength to 2
*Improved agility falls into the same pitfall and actually suffers even more. definite skip for now
Improved Stab

Pain
*Thick Armor increases your armor from items, but Flexibility has a chance to completely dodge them. Also Thick Armor has a similar issue as Improved Strength/Agility
Penetration
**Flexibility wins, but since you need 2 more points to access Tier 2 talents Thick armor is easily the next choice
Improved Strength to 3

Masters training
Tier 2
Flexibility

Focus
Tree 2
Incapacitate
*Despite needing only 5 points to unlock tier 2 talents, Assassin should maximize the ranks of both Improved Sever and Improved Stab before ranking up Bloodletting first (over Pain).
Channel Energy
**The critical chance increase on bleeding enemies completely beats out Pain's general critical chance increase.
Thick armor

Improved Agility
*Improved Bladestorm is actually ridiculously good.
Discipline
**The only issue is the rage cost you will eventually overcome.
Improved Stealth (just to unlock them all)
**Therefore theres no rush to rank this up yet.
Assuming you have 6 extra talent points you should unlock Penetration at level 80. You can decide to upgrade master training first, but I recommend doing it after Pain and Penetration.

Tree 1
I want to mention that while Assassin has plenty of talents that deal with physical damage, it has no innate defense against magic damage.

*Therefore Focus is easily the most useful tier 2 talent on Tree 1. It'll indirectly increase your damage by reducing the cost of abilities.
**The 12% rage cost decrease also makes for great value when compared to actually investing into intellect

*Personally between Discipline and Channel Energy, the latter feels more enticing. Its sorta hard to determine how much less physical damage you actually take from decreased critical hits taken when compared to a tangible damage decrease.

Tier 3
Tree 2
*Penetration is a straight forward talent that allows you to deal more damage. Nothing wrong with reducing defense.

Tree 1
*Improved Stealth is a solid talent bogged down by the fact you have to invest in a defensive tree over an offensive one. Think of it as a late game goal.

Description

Strong physical attacks cut through your enemies. Evade your foes and strike from the shadows.

The Assassin fights with rage, strikes fast and from hiding, and avoids being hit rather than taking it.

How it plays

Early on, Melee and Stab will be the primary buttons you'll use. Sever will bleed the target and inflict damage over time, which should be reapplied after it wears off. Bladestorm, Distracting throw, and Hamstring, all are damaging abilities you'll eventually use just as often.

  • Although Distracting Throw is a cost inefficient skill (deals damage similar to melee but costs rage), it can allow you to bring a single enemy to you if there are too many enemies around it.
  • Hamstring has a long cooldown and similarly low amounts of damage, but has a chance to stun.

Assassins' Vigor is effectively a permanent self-buff to damage and should always be up. Stealth is Assassin's "signature" skill that allows you to hide from enemies and later on allow you to deal more damage.

What to train

Strength and Stamina are the two stats you should prioritize, with more emphasis on Strength (70/30 ratio) early on.

Therefore your training energy should never touch stats other than Strength and Stamina.

  • Your points still focused on these two stats unless you have some you can afford to spare on Agility and Intellect.

  • You can effectively double the duration of bleeds while increasing your critical chance on bleeding targets as well.

  • Eventually you can also improve the Stealth ability by reducing your detection range and increasing your critical chance while sheathed.

Overview › Classes › Assassin

Stats

What training each stat gives a Assassin. How much grows with the stat; the game's training window shows it for your own character.

Stat Gives
Stamina Health Increase
Rage Increase
Strength Physical Damage
Intellect Magic Damage
Rage Cost Reduction
Agility Physical Crit Chance
Dodge Melee Attack
Spirit Magic Crit Chance
Healing
Absorb Magical Attack
Health regeneration every 5 seconds while out of combat.
Rage regeneration every 5 seconds. Halfed when in combat.

Spells

Every spell of the class as its spellbook lists it, with the level it is learned at. New spells and ranks are learned automatically on reaching their level. A number that grows with each rank, such as damage or cost, reads X: the spellbook in the game shows it for each rank and for your own character.

Spell Level Type Cast time Cooldown Range Effect
Melee - Physical Instant 1 second 1 Space Basic melee attack dealing X damage. Costs no rage.
Stab - Physical Instant 2 seconds 1 Space Run your weapon through your enemy dealing X damage, while consuming X rage.
Sever - Physical Instant (over time) 5 seconds 1 Space Slice your enemy causing them to bleed for X damage over 10 to 15 seconds, costing X rage.
Stealth - Buff Instant 2 seconds 1 Space Turn nearly invisible hiding yourself from enemies.
Assassin's Vigor 20 Buff Instant 1 second 1 Space You are consumed by a burst of energy, increasing your strength by 15% for 5 minutes.
Blade Storm 15 Physical Instant 10-5 seconds 2 Spaces You wield your weapons quickly, inflicting great damage on surrounding enemies causing X damage, consuming X rage. Hits up to 10 enemies; past 5, each takes less.
Distracting Throw 4 Physical Instant 3 seconds 10 Spaces Hurl your weapon at your enemy from afar causing X damage, consuming X rage.
Hamstring 10 Physical Instant 20 seconds 1 Space Hits for X and stuns your opponent for 0 to 5 seconds. Stun breaks when enemy is attacked. Costs X rage.

Talents

Talents cost 1 Talent Point a piece; a character receives 1 Talent Point every 10 levels. A talent under an arrow requires the one above it learned first. Every point in a talent adds the same again: 2%/4%/6% is what one, two and three points give.

Tree 1
Improved Agility
5 ranks
Increases total agility by 1%/2%/3%/4%/5%.

Talents (in-depth)

Tree 2 should be prioritized first to maximize damage. the talents on Tree 1 aren't terrible per say, but they wont benefit you as much early on.

Tier 1

Tree 2

  • Improved Stab is the top priority as its your most reliable ability at the start. There is no reason not to increase your critical chance by up to 30%
  • Improved Sever is also important, but no equally so even though its required to learn Bloodletting (and increase crit chance on bleeding targets).
    • You need to invest 3 points to even unlock the ability to rank up the next talent. 30% critical chance on stab has way more tangible value than a longer bleed at face value
  • Improved Strength can be easily skipped as it will take much later before you actually see any benefit from the increased total strength.

Tree 1

  • Improved agility falls into the same pitfall and actually suffers even more. definite skip for now
  • Thick Armor increases your armor from items, but Flexibility has a chance to completely dodge them. Also Thick Armor has a similar issue as Improved Strength/Agility
    • Flexibility wins, but since you need 2 more points to access Tier 2 talents Thick armor is easily the next choice

Tier 2

Tree 2

  • Despite needing only 5 points to unlock tier 2 talents, Assassin should maximize the ranks of both Improved Sever and Improved Stab before ranking up Bloodletting first (over Pain).
    • The critical chance increase on bleeding enemies completely beats out Pain's general critical chance increase.
  • Improved Bladestorm is actually ridiculously good.
    • The only issue is the rage cost you will eventually overcome.
    • Therefore theres no rush to rank this up yet.

Tree 1

I want to mention that while Assassin has plenty of talents that deal with physical damage, it has no innate defense against magic damage.

  • Therefore Focus is easily the most useful tier 2 talent on Tree 1. It'll indirectly increase your damage by reducing the cost of abilities.
    • The 12% rage cost decrease also makes for great value when compared to actually investing into intellect
  • Personally between Discipline and Channel Energy, the latter feels more enticing. Its sorta hard to determine how much less physical damage you actually take from decreased critical hits taken when compared to a tangible damage decrease.

Tier 3

Tree 2

  • Penetration is a straight forward talent that allows you to deal more damage. Nothing wrong with reducing defense.

Tree 1

  • Improved Stealth is a solid talent bogged down by the fact you have to invest in a defensive tree over an offensive one. Think of it as a late game goal.
