Overview › Crafting › Fishing

How fishing works

Fishing is a minigame of its own: cast, wait for the bite, then reel the fish in. Every fish needs a level of Fishing and lives in certain zones, listed below.

Casting and the bite

Click on water to cast. The fish nibbles at the line a few times before it really bites; strike at the bite. Each new cast starts over.

Reeling

Once the fish is hooked, the reel meter opens over the action bars. Hold the mouse button down anywhere on the game to reel and let go to ease: the aim is to keep the white needle inside the green zone in the middle. The fish takes turns between calm spells and short bursts of thrashing, when it pulls hardest. While the needle stays in the green, the bar below fills; once it is full, the fish is landed. Out of the green, the fish can get away.

The green zone stays in the middle, and its width comes from your Fishing skill, which is written on it: the more skill, the more room the needle has.

Reeling: the needle is in the green, which lights up, and the bar fills. The 57 is the Fishing skill.

A rare fish: title and bar turn gold. Here the needle has slipped out of the green, so the bar is not filling.

Perfect reels

Keep the needle in the green the whole time and the meter shows PERFECT in its corner; the catch is then a perfect reel ("Perfect reel! You caught ..."). In the 96 catches recorded for this wiki, a perfect reel brought 3.8 fish on average, any other 1.6.

The Great Whale

The Great Whale is a fight rather than a catch: instead of the bar that fills, the meter shows the whale's health, which you wear down. At its last stand the title turns red. Landing it shows a golden card with its prize.

The catch

A landed fish shows a card with its name in the colour of its rarity (white common, green uncommon, blue rare, purple epic), its weight, and whether it is your biggest yet. One catch can hold several fish. The Fishing Log, from the crafting window, lists every fish of the game with the level it needs, its zones and the record weight.
